Screenwriter Specs, Pitches and Deals 1

This BLOG is provided by http://www.writerskey.com/

*New Regency and Scott Free Productions are developing Andrew Will's spec script Archangels, a story about a covert group of agents who battle aliens secretly living among humans. (Wait a minute! Didn't I rent that one from Netflix, last week?-Ed.)

*Warner Brothers has purchased the spec World War X from writer Colin Trevorrow. Story revolves around a man recruited by a team of government agents to stop a terrorist from the future who is using time travel to reshape history. (Criminal Minds meets Back To the Future meets, uh, Godzilla?-Ed.)

*Paramount has bought a sci-fi pitch from writer Bobby Glickert. Although most of the plot (Get ready for it!-Ed.) remains under wraps (Oh no! Tell us it's not so!-Ed.) the story involves alien abductions. (You're kidding! Wow! What a concept!-Ed.)

*Screenwriter Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network, The West Wing, etc) has acquired film rights to Andrew Young's book about former U.S. presidential candidate John Edwards. Book is called The Politician: An Insider's Account of John Edwards' Pursuit of the Presidency and the Scandal That Brought Him Down. (Catchy title!-Ed.) Apparently during the 2008 presidential primary, Edwards began making unethical demands (for a politician, that is-Ed.) of author Young relating to the candidate's mistress and her child with him. (Advice to screenwriters: 1) Write a book 2) Be nasty.-Ed.)

*Dustin Lance Black (Milk) has been hired to write the screenplay for 20th Century Fox's feature film about infamous 18-year-old Colton Harris-Moore, the "Barefoot Bandit" (Wow!-Ed.) Movie will be based on a book proposal Taking Flight: The Hunt for a Young Outlaw (Snappy title! No wonder it got picked up. But wait, there's more!-Ed.) Colton committed a whole bunch of crimes (Sez here-Ed.). He ALLEGEDLY stole 5 small aircraft, a boat, 2 cars and burglarized over 100 homes in the U.S. Northwest and Canada. (That's ALL?-Ed.) The 18-year-old earned the nickname "Barefoot Bandit" after having been seen running barefoot from the scenes of the crimes. (Cantcha just SEE it? Teen with bare feet stealing a boat!? Me-I'm waiting for the 3D-Imax showing.-Ed.) (Notes to screenwriters: 1) Write an INTERESTING book. 2) You can do much better than this! Howabout...wait, I got it!...a runaway Golden Retreiver that wears SHOES!-Ed.)
